Pierre Balmain for Fashion of Florida Authenticity?

Hello everyone,

A friend of mind came across a great find while thrifting today. It's appears to be a Balmain jacket but she's not sure about it's authenticity since the label says (In French) it's a Pierre Balmain designed in Paris for Fashion of Florida in Miami. Does anyone know if this is in fact true? Doing a bit of searching around online there isn't a lot of information on this label, apart from one vintage shop selling a suit set. Any sort of insight would be very much appreciated.

Thanks Lynne for sharing! Interesting article. I wonder if the French manufacturing State-side ended up taking off or if the American market felt like they were getting 'watered down' versions of the original?
